About This Event
A hands-on favorite for all ages. Wade into Beaver Creek with a park interpreter to net and identify the critters living in the water, and learn what they say about the health of the watershed. Meet at Beaver Creek, a short walk from the Beaver Creek Picnic Area, and come with sandals. Free with the $10/vehicle park entrance.

About Calaveras Big Trees State Park
Big Trees is the reason a lot of us first came up the 4, and the reason a lot of us stayed. The North Grove Loop is about 1.5 miles, stroller-friendly, and walks you right through the giant sequoias Augustus T. Dowd put on the map in 1852; the South Grove is longer if you want to earn it. Snowshoeing the big trees in winter is bucket-list level if you can time it right. Dogs are welcome on the fire roads but not the trails. Free parking, ranger talks in summer, and about 129 campsites if you make a weekend of it.
