Bear Valley Adventure Company is the year-round outfitter at the base of Bear Valley, where you rent the gear that matches the season: cross-country skis and snowshoes in winter, bikes and kayaks in summer. I haven't spent much time inside, but they're the practical starting point if you're heading up without your own gear. Free parking, and it's set up for families figuring out a day on the mountain.
