About Bear Valley Mountain Resort
Pure Mountain Fun! 1,680 acres, 9 lifts, 1,900 vertical feet off an 8,495 ft base, about half an hour up from Arnold. The Grizzly Chair is the one to know about: basically backcountry, an ungroomed bowl (one groomed run, Snow Valley, is sometimes an option). It is served by a two-seat 1960s original chair that takes its sweet time, but is a great rest and OH THE VIEW. Because the Grizz drops to the lowest part of the mountain it isn't always open, but when it is, Bear Valley goes next level: lines stay minimal, and you'll want the slow ride back up after burning your quads on 1,200 vertical. Outside the Grizz it's wonderful for beginners, rarely crowded except holiday weekends, with room to spread out, and the glades and the Grizz keep it fun for experts too. Don't tell anyone you can find pockets of powder days after a dump in the glades. And there are so many glades. There's a Snow Play area for tubing and sledding with the little kids, and parking is free
