Camp Connell General Store has been the whole town's anchor since 1928, when Jack and Noreen Connell opened it: groceries, gifts, beer and wine, a cafe, the on-site Chevron (one of the oldest continuously operating in California), and the Beer Garden out back along San Antonio Creek. The Beer Garden runs summer Saturday nights with a stage and room for a crowd, and moves indoors for Friday music when it gets cold. Easy stop for gas and a milkshake on the way up to Bear, or a real destination on a music night.
